EDYC Peel Race report 16 Sep 2017

Having done a swap of the date of the Ardglass Race with the Peel race due to the clash with the TT motorbike event – the Peel race was late in the season on 16 Sept 17. It had some ten entrant boats. The race started within the lough (the EDYC normal committee vessel, Holm Bay ) with a first windward mark 5 to Starboard. These are several photos of the boats advancing to this mark. The wind was generally in the North during the day and was light during the start. Further text below these photos.

The three starts were handled as per the SIs and the fleets managed a run down the narrows. In the Irish Sea one report, was of the wind at 17 or 18 knots (another says 7 to 12 knots) from the north so not broad enough for spinnakers however one boat managed an asymmetrical.

Boats took their own times reaching the Peel wall – race times in and around 5 hour 40 mn. (seconds should be recorded next year preferably from the GPS). After an adjournment , prizes were awarded outside the Creek Inn about 11:00. The Harbour Master at Peel was very hospitable and boats enjoyed their overnight with one leaving early in the morning and most returning in the lighter Sunday wind giving a pleasant sail home. Tide times fitted well on the date.

IRCI prize order Flashpoint, Hindsight II and Go to Red (GTR).   NHC1 prize order Osprey, Lizante, Tiger Lilly and Scotch Mist. The NHCRS1 two sail class prize order was Aspect, Nic Nak , Sea Borne. Further details in the results on this site now. This link http://halsail.com/Result/Public/22039 will screen results in a new tab.

All competitors agreed they had a great sail across , the prize giving was good craic  having it outside the Creek Inn at 11.00pm. One skipper at his prize acceptance , thanked EDYC and said it was a well run event. Thanks from EDYC to all entrants for their support.
