Five club members from EDYC attended the RYA NI Instructor Training Conference held at Strangford Lough Yacht Club (Whiterock) on Sun 3 Feb 19. These attendees were provided a Recognised Teaching Centre ( RTC) Update by Amanda Van Santen RYA HQ, ( RYA Chief Instructor Dinghy & Windsurfing), plus updates on many topics of interest to sailors and current news.
The programme for this year’s Instructor Training Day, included practical sessions on foiling and powerboating to support advanced dinghy sailing, new ideas for instructors and centres, workforce planning for your club/ centre plus many more topics.
Paul Outram from the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, a Foiling instructor, Coach Assessor and Windsurf Trainer delivered instruction on foiling.
Two of our club members took part in the foiling sessions which were utilising RS Aero dinghies with 9 meter sails and a foiling kit. Paul had towed two of these over from Weymouth.
The foil in the main replaces the centre or dagger board and a similar but smaller foil replaced the rudder.
We know all this gained knowledge , enthusiasm and skill will be ploughed back thro the club instruction and training programme.
