Youth RIB Training Spring 2019

The club is again to offer youth RIB training, however not identical to last year in that we shall concentrate on RYA Power Boat skills for the early weeks, then move to involve competition preparation and training and finally a club heat for the RYA Youth RIB competition, leading to four winners to the regional heat of the RYA Youth RIB challenge.

We will anticipate a spread of ages, with 8 to 12 and 12 to 16 being the competition bands and also a spread of previous experience and ability. Thus sessions may be run which attract a spread of youth.

In terms of charges the Exec have agreed a £5 a session fee and with possibly 8 sessions, an up front with form fee of £30. The application form is essential for parental consent, contact numbers etc.

Aim: To provide a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats.A practical course, formatted by attend the club RIB sheds as soon as possible 18:30 dressed appropriately. Short teaching within the sheds, followed by practical. On water by 19:00.Off water by 20:00 with hot drink and follow up de-brief in kitchen/McRobert Room and disperse ASAP 20:30.

Outlook: As yet we have notionally set Friday evenings in late March and April against this course, however some unknowns are to be of influence. Firstly a RIB shed, secondly an RYA Inspection and various other details not worth publishing. Thus the start date is Fri 15 March.

Update – on 27/2/19 – The first session will be on Fri 15th March at 18:30.

Due to day light, no rib shed, RYA inspection etc – I am proposing to start with two involvement sessions – dry, then the water sessions.

All sessions will be Fri Nights as predicted – The two involvement sessions will be first on 15th and 22nd March then following Fridays on water. (Sunset 18:26   18:40 expectedly) Involvement sessions will be game fun and learning, featuring lifejackets, radios , navigation etc plus refreshments.
