This event at EDYC was a wonderful opportunity for sailers from across the lough to get on the water and test the skills against their club friends and make friends with youth members from other clubs.
This year’s final leg of the Strangford Lough Youth Series was hosted at EDYC, mainly in the sheltered waters with in the dorn between Island Taggart and the mainland. With over 30 young sailors lining up on the start for a great days sailing in a wide range of boats. In light air conditions RO Keith Maxwell delivered 3 challenging races. The final race took place on the outside of the island and with tide and wind assist, the boats reached a finish line within the dorn’s southern entrance. The final results meant it would be close between EDYC and KYC. But under the watchful eye of the Results Officer, Angela Gilmore it would be the youth of East Down Yacht Club who won the series for 2022. Everyone agreed it was a perfect ending to a wonderful weekend.
Due to the overall series prize calculation, the prize giving was delayed, however the approx 25 below awaited the outcome with interest.
The event finished with hot dogs and orange for the competitors and a demonstration of making mozzarella cheese, with free samples of the mozzarella cheese.
