Kircubbin Sailing Club Regatta was held on Sat 22 June 2024 with the first warning signal at 13:35. HW at Quoile was at 14:00. Overall there were 19 yachts competing and the first start, that of Cruiser YTC1 under 975 plus Cruiser IRC was the major class – see start photo below.
Passing thro the start line the fleet spread
Having received course sheets distributed on the water, courses were mainly windward leeward plus a finish line past a battery ashore. This meant several spinnaker runs for each yacht.
One unfortunate competitor went aground on a pladdy and was left by the falling tide.
This drew much activity from the support craft and left those finishing at the club with a single boat doing taxi between mooring and clubhouse.
The wind during the afternoon was forecast to be SW 13 knots gusting to 16 knots with a peak at around 16:00 and with that direction of fetch, a small but healthy wave pattern had been established but with no massive heights.
Yachts competing included Magdaleyne, Le Basculer (A35), Impalas Chorus Line, Maverick, Wild Mustard, IMP , Mipaal, cruiser Kestrel, Madrigal, a Maxi84(Aspect), one River, several Glens (about 4) and a yellow yacht to make the 18/19 overall fleet.
