What better way to pass a winter evening than to spend it with your sailing buddies and have an evening of playing with the club “Flaags”.

We did it – had an evening of discussing and  Race Officer RO Simulation Games at EDYC as Training

Tea and Coffee, scones, biscuits were served from 7pm.

Commodore Margie welcomed all, including an International Race Official and Volunteer – Robin

We had good turnout of new faces plus some experienced sailors and the scones biscuits and tea/coffee were warmly received, within the bar which benefited from the new gas heating system.

John led the assembly in working through the RO tasks. Discussion took place on many aspects including the maximum wind strength to race in – about 20 knots, how to select courses for classes,. What flags and halyards to use and the autohoot system. How results should be recorded and submitted.

The 2018 handbook promises to contain several changes.

We already have adopted the RRS by our EDYC Sailing Instruction para 1, however we are in the process of updating  most of our papers to comply, by using the check lists the RYA provide. In short instead of our club handbook section “Sailing Instructions” we now will have two sections – Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions in short NoR and SIs – this puts us identical to all other sailing events  and means that our competitors learn and become accustomed to the papers, layout, phrases and interpretation.

While we have published in the downloads section of this web site our initial draft – there are some aspects which still require attention, the insurance requirement, the halyard system and the use of flags “S” and the blue flag which we have been using not as internationally recommended.
