TRAINING 2021 IS STARTING! May 21

Now that the COVID restrictions are easing we are able to begin opening up training opportunities for members. We will do this gradually, and ask that you bear with us as we seek to control the risks to everyone at EDYC.

Some key principles are worth stating. First, no one is allowed to come to the club if they or a member of their household has any of the COVID symptoms. If symptoms develop during a course you must tell us immediately and then stay away.

Second, the club changing rooms must not be used until the Club Executive Committee allows it. This, plus mask wearing as required by regulation or your instructors, as with all COVID rules, are for your safety and ours. If you don’t follow them we will ask you to stay away for the rest of the course.

We believe that we can stay within these rules and still enjoy our training. This is how we plan to do this.

We plan to hold a Youth Training Week 5th-9th July, cost £150/person (second and subsequent child in a household £120). From enquiries to date we expect a lot of interest and places to fill up quickly. We will allocate places with priority to beginners.

We recognise that learning for the first time and commitment to a full week is quite a challenge. To provide reassurance we would like to offer taster sessions for beginners on Tuesday afternoons and evenings, by arrangement. Please contact Margie Crawford (e-mail  trainwithedyc@gmail.com) to make a booking.

We have a cadre of sailors who are ready to begin their Assistant InstructorTraining. This will take place on Friday evenings and is open to anyone with Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 3 or above. This will be available on a first come basis until the permitted limit on numbers is reached (currently 15, including instructors and helpers), starting as near to 18:00 as possible. This may be an opportunity for young people to convert their sailing experience into service awards  with the various youth organisations, DoE schemes, etc.

We have not made plans yet to deliver adult or powerboat courses. If you are interested in one of these please send an email to edycprincipal@gmail.com,  stating your current level of expertise, what further training you would like, and days and times that are most likely to suit you,

All training requires a signed standard conditions form and formal courses other than taster sessions and the Friday evening AI training will also need a completed booking form. Both these forms are available as downloads in the download section.
